PRIMARY PURPOSE
· Represent the Facilities Management Department to faculty, staff, students, outside clients and vendors in a positive and professional manner.
· Assist the Custodial Supervisor in providing quality custodial service to departments on campus.
· Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the areas in which you are assigned for health and presentation.

SCOPE

The Custodian reports to the Custodial Supervisor, Senior Team Leader and Team Leaders and is responsible for providing primary support to the Custodial Supervisor in the areas of housekeeping and custodial services. Secondary support is provided to the trade departments by submitting work orders that relate to the custodian’s assigned area, which includes; Grounds, Security, Lock and Key, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Paint and Carpentry. The Custodian is responsible for following instructions given by the Custodial Supervisor and for completing tasks they are given by the Senior Team Leader and/or their team Leader, which may or may not relate to their usual duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Communication……………………………………………………………20%
· Report to custodial supervisors areas of need within your designated work area including; supplies, equipment, schedules, unusual circumstances, events and problems.
· Communicate with the departments that you are serving to inquire about any possible areas of concern, so they can be addressed appropriately or corrected as needed.
· Communicate with Facilities Management office regarding work orders for your assigned area
Cleaning……………………………………………………………………70%
· Location Specific Task lists will be provided. The tasks include but are not limited to; emptying trash, vacuuming carpet, sweeping and mopping hard surface floors, sanitizing restrooms and showers, cleaning glass and dusting.
· Maintaining equipment so it is clean, presentable and serviceable.
Restocking…………………………………………………………………..5%
· At the end of each work day: Take inventory of cleaning and paper products on hand, determine need, make a list of products you need and submit the list to your supervisor. Plan in advance. Do not run out of supplies. Extra trips after supplies are not necessary and waste valuable time.
· Stock the maid cart at the beginning of each shift. This will eliminate wasted trips to and from the Janitor’s Closet.
Record keeping………………………………………………………………5%
· Keep a daily journal that describes the work completed, unusual events, special requests from departments, problem areas and concerns. Make note of any work orders turned in.

Physical Requirements
· Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
· Must be able to walk up and down flights of stairs.
· Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch with no difficulty.
· Must be able to stand for 8 hours a day.
· Must be able to work with arms raised over your head.
