Department of Biology

Department of Biology

The SNU Department of Biology seeks to create an environment emphasizing individual attention to encourage academic achievement, while striving to make a distinctive contribution to the spiritual life of our students.

The departmental mission includes the following priorities:

We are committed to offering the breadth and quality of coursework necessary to prepare students for successful admission to graduate and professional programs.

We emphasize the need to integrate faith, living, and learning including:

  • An appreciation for the majesty of God as revealed in the order and complexity of His creation.
  • A careful consideration of the ethical implications involved in the field of biology.
  • The development of a belief system which includes strong Christian stewardship of all of God's creation.

We seek to equip not only biology majors, but also non-science majors to be "Responsible Christian Persons". To that end, we offer a dynamic Christian view of modern and traditional biology to non-science students as a contribution to the overall General Education program at SNU. In this process, we emphasize the responsibility all Christians have to exercise stewardship of God's creation.

The faculty of the biology department are committed to continuing their own scholarly development and to function as proper role models for their students. We seek to model a life where integration of faith, living, and learning is our primary focus. As a faculty, we pursue both personal and academic excellence as we want all that we do to be an act of worship.

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." - Matthew 22:37
