Frequently Asked Questions

What degree must I have completed for admission to the MA CL?
A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. The degree does not have to be in religion, although an undergraduate major or minor in Religion is the most beneficial.

How do I get started?

How much time will I have to spend working on the classes each week?
The simple answer is a very general statement of from 5 to 20 hours, but that isn’t very helpful. The real answer is that it depends on several variables. First, some classes cover material that you know more about than other classes. These will not be as difficult to grasp and master. Second, each week has a different set of activities so you will want to read ahead and plan your time. Third, some assignments are not due until the end of the class. If you put these off until the last week, you can have some weeks where you only work 2 or 3 hours. However, that will mean that the last week will be a very long and hard and you may spend most of your time on class work. Forth, it really depends on the student. For various reasons, some students read slowly and may spend more time than others on the same assignments. However, the same student may have very good memory and thus may retain information better than others.

The program is designed for Church Leaders and the assignments are designed for you to be able to overlap your work as a Church Leader and your work as a student. So, while you may spend 10 to 15 hours during a week on work for the class, much of that time might be also preparing for a leadership development class you are teaching at the Church.
