Southern Nazarene University partners with Hallmark Hall of Fame to present a pre-broadcast premiere for the upcoming movie Beyond The Blackboard.
When Stacey Bess gets her first teaching job, it’s not at all what she expected. She’s assigned to the School with No Name in Salt Lake City, a space in a homeless shelter that is supposed to function as a classroom. The ‘classroom,’ though, lacks basic supplies such as desks and books, and her young students range in age from six to 12. Based on a true story, Beyond the Blackboard portrays young Stacey confronting her own fears and insecurities as she struggles to gain attention and respect from her students. She must also win over school board administrators and apprehensive parents.
The movie will premiere at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 8:00pm. The doors open at 7:15pm and seating is first come, first serve. Admission is free, but donations of copy paper will be taken for Putnam City West High School.
Stacey Bess, (real life teacher whose life is portrayed in the movie) will be present at the premiere along with Hallmark Hall of Fame Productions President, Brad Moore, SNU Alumnus, Class of 1968.
Beyond the Blackboard, the 243rd presentation of the Hallmark Hall of Fame, premieres Sunday, April 24, 2011, 9-11pm ET/PT on CBS.
