New Courses offer Credentialing Opportunity

KNES 3743  NASM Essentials of Sport Performance Training, and KNES 3713  Essentials of Personal Fitness Training, taught on a two-year course rotation in the Fall semester.  These courses will be taught by adjunct professor Jeremy Johnson, M.A.; B.S.; C.P.T.

The intent in offering these exam certification prep-courses is to provide students in the various areas of  Kinesiology the option of obtaining certification to enhance employment opportunities, or to create their own business following graduation.  It would also be beneficial to those students seeking an Associate Degree before entering the work force.

Successful course completion will provide students with a scientific and practical knowledge base required to pursue certification as a Performance Enhancement Specialist.   These courses will NOT certify the student as a Performance Enhancement Specialist; students must pass the certification exams in order to be certifiedApplication for taking the certification exam through NASM may be arranged individually by the student following completion of the course(s) where they will receive student preferred pricing.

The Essentials of Sports Performance Training and the Essentials of Personal Fitness Training are based on the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) proprietary Optimum Performance training (OPT) model.  This model teaches future sports performance coaches and other trainers how to strategically design  strength and conditioning programs to train athletes safely and effectively.  Students will learn NASM's systematic approach to program design with sports performance program guidelines and variables; protocols for building stabilization, strength, and power programs; innovated approaches to speed, agility and quickness drills.
