School of Music at Southern Nazarene University

The SNU School of Music enjoys three major facilities—the Parker Fine Arts Center, Cantrell Music Hall, and Herrick Auditorium.

The Beverly L. and Robert L. Parker Fine Arts Center boasts an 80-seat recital hall, 3 classrooms, a choral rehearsal room, an instrumental rehearsal room, instrumental storage area, 18 practice rooms each equipped with a piano, a central lounge, 8 studios, a piano/computer lab, and a digital recording lab.

Cantrell Music Hall, a 300-seat concert/recital hall, offers a wonderful acoustic environment for performers and listeners. Three studios are located in Cantrell, along with 3 first-class instruments. The Schlicker Pipe Organ located in Cantrell is one of the finest organs of its type in Oklahoma. The 45-rank tracker organ was custom designed for Cantrell. The Bosendorfer Imperial Grand Piano, hand-crafted in Austria, is one of the largest pianos manufactured in the world, and is one of the finest pianos in the region. Completing the keyboard array is the Sabathil harpsichord, built in Canada for SNU.

Herrick Auditorium, SNU's 1,100-seat performance space, hosts a variety of School of Music performances.

Recording Studio

Connected to the Parker Fine Arts Center is the School of Music's Recording Studio completed in August of 2006.

Occupying just under 2,000 square feet, the SNU Recording Studio contains three control rooms and five isolation rooms that are capable of functioning independently or as a whole.  A facility of this quality is unusual for any school and SNU is able to provide a program that is unique to this region of the country.

The recording studio boasts the latest studio equipment including the Mackie DXB 72-input digital console and a broad selection of microphones. Students also have access to industry standard software including Digidesign Pro Tools, Steinberg Cubase, and Adobe Audition.

The facility allows students to work in an environment that is equivalent to a full commercial studio. Students can work together or individually on class assignments, personal projects and, in some cases, actual commercial work.

In SNU's Recording Studio, great care has been taken to provide the best sound isolation while still maintaining good visual connection between each of the isolation rooms. Principles as diverse as basic acoustics to common studio proceedures will be learned in a hands-on approach that far exceeds the conventional classroom experience.
