The SNU Pre-Athletic Training Program, through traditional coursework and hands on skills development, prepares students to attend graduate school in the pursuit of a Master’s of Science in Athletic Training. Upon graduation from this program, not only will students have earned the course pre-requisites that are required to apply to the graduate school of their choosing, but they will have also developed a variety of skills that will become useful in clinical practice as a Certified Athletic Trainer. 

The hands on focus and Athletic Training at Southern Nazarene University, Bethany Oklahomaclinical experiences embedded within this academic program is what sets it apart from its competitors at other institutions. In addition, students will be challenged to acquire clinically relevant knowledge in the injury evaluation, therapeutic modalities, therapeutic rehabilitation, and numerous other courses. This clinical knowledge will be immensely valuable to the graduating student as they begin taking graduate level courses over some of the same content. Upon completing a Master’s of Science degree in Athletic Training and passing a nationally certifying examination, graduates find opportunities to practice as health care providers to the physically active in a wide variety of settings.


Graduates from the SNU Pre-Athletic Training Program are prepared and eligible to attend graduate school in the pursuit of a Master’s in Athletic Training. Curriculum content focuses around:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Orthopedic Evaluation
  • Nutrition
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Biomechanics


Upon completing a Masters degree in Athletic Training, graduates would find opportunities as a health care provider to the physically active in a wide variety of settings including:

  • High Schools
  • Colleges and Universities
  • Private Clinics
  • Hospitals
  • Industrial / Corporate


  • Experience working as clinicians in a variety of settings
  • Experience with preceptors through collegiate athletes, high schools and surrounding communities

The Southern Nazarene University Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) in no longer accepting new students. Southern Nazarene University ATEP is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program has been placed on Probation as of February 19, 2016 by the CAATE, 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101, and is currently executing a teach out of its current students

Michael Brobston
Michael Brobston - Athletic Training Alumni

Currently: Certified Athletic Trainer for the SNU football team

Responsibilities: Michael Brobston aids student athletes in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. He also serves as a preceptor to Athletic Training Students as SNU and is involved in state and national organizations.

Accomplishments: After graduating from SNU with a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Michael passed his Board of Certification exam to be a Certified Athletic Trainer. He then earned his Master’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. While at SNU, he was a President’s Ambassador and graduated Who’s Who of America’s Colleges and Universities.

In His Words: “My core athletic training courses were excellent in preparing me first for the BOC exam and second for the clinical world of athletic training. Specifically, each of the 6 practicums that were assigned throughout my time in the Athletic Training Program were most helpful in teaching me the ways of the athletic training room.”
