Continued enrollment at Southern Nazarene University requires
satisfactory progress toward an educational objective, as based on the following
two indicators:
-
The grade point average for the last semester in which the
student was enrolled.
-
The cumulative grade point average for all of the
college work that has been attempted by the student.
Minimum Standard for Cumulative Grades
A student is making satisfactory progress if the
cumulative GPA is at least 2.00, the previous semester GPA is
at least 1.50, and he/she is making appropriate progress towards hours
completed.
-
A student will receive a
"warning" once they have completed 60+ hours and their
semester GPA falls between 1.50 and 2.00.
-
A student will be on probation status
if:
a) the students cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 at the end of the
previous semester, or
b) the student was on probation during the
previous semester and the previous semester's GPA is at least 2.00 and
cumulative GPA is still below 2.00 or
c) the student was on "final
probation" during the previous semester and has completed two consecutive
semesters with a semester GPA of at least 2.00 and their cumulative GPA is
still below 2.00, or
d) the student has transferred from
another school with a semester GPA below 2.00 but has
a cumulative GPA above 2.00, or
e) the student has completed 60+
hours and their semester GPA falls below 1.50.
-
A student will be on final probation status
if:
a) the student was on probation the previous semester and that
semester's GPA is below 2.00, or
b) the student was on final
probation during the previous
semester and the previous semester GPA is at least 2.00,
or
c) the student has transferred from another school at which
the student had a cumulative GPA of less than 2.00 or was
academically ineligible, or
d) the student was provisionally
admitted and did not achieve at least 2.00 in the previous
semester.
-
A student will be academically
ineligible if:
a) the student was on final probation during
the previous semester and the previous semester's GPA
is below 2.00, or
b) the student is on probation and not
meeting regularly with the assigned probation advisor, or
c)
the student was provisionally admitted and has not met the criteria for
full admission at the completion of the first two
semesters.
Students on academic probation (semester or final) must gain
clearance through the Academic Services office before being allowed to
pre-register or to finalize registration. With the assistance of Academic
Services personnel, probation students are required to develop a support and
accountability plan designed to optimize their academic performance. For some
students, this involves regular individual meetings with a representative of
Academic Services; other students may be required to participate in structured
methods of group accountability (such as the Academic Turning Points seminars).
Students on probation are expected to fulfill the provisions of their
accountability plan in order to stay enrolled at SNU. If they do not do so,
their enrollment privilege may be
discontinued.
