Southern Nazarene University alumnus, Tommy Goddard ('10) has returned from California after playing drums in the 2011 Disneyland All-American College Band.
Goddard’s dream to be a part of this band began after first seeing them perform at the age of 4. It’s always been in the back of his mind to reach this ultimate goal.
After auditioning for this band three times and later being selected as an alternate in 2010, Goddard’s dream finally became a reality. He said, “It's the kind of audition to where you have to go through it in order to understand what the judges are looking for. I got better at auditioning for this group every year.” For his audition he composed his own snare solo titled, "The Apex."
Being a part of the Disneyland All-American College Band has placed Goddard in a whole new category of expertise in the music world. Throughout the summer he was able to learn and take private lessons from some of the industries biggest musicians including, Jeff Hamilton, James Babor and Gregg Field.
Goddard was one of the only Christians in his group this summer and had many opportunities to witness to others and share his love for Jesus Christ. Working at Disney was part of his mission field and God answered his prayer to always have a chance to witness about Him.
Spending a summer with the band has done wonders for Goddard’s musical career and also allowed him to build relationships that will last a lifetime. He says, “I’ve enjoyed interacting with Disneyland guests to put a smile on their face. I've learned so much about how I fit into this worldly career in the arts. God has been speaking to me all summer, showing me the way of His Will.”
Included in many of his opportunities, Goddard will be auditioning for Tokyo Disney next month.
Goddard currently lives in Oklahoma City with his wife Micha and will graduate with a Master of Music in Percussion and Jazz Studies from the University of Central Oklahoma in December.
