Southern Nazarene University (SNU) completed this Spring Commencement with 150 Traditional graduates, 124 Bachelor graduates, and 82 Master graduates in the two commencement exercises on Saturday, May 9, 2009 totaling 356 graduates in all.

“This past weekend was a time of celebration and decision for the students who departed our campus with their graduation, amidst the ceremonies of Commencement exercises, Ivy Ring, Capping and Pinning, stole presentation and other activities related to the event. Three honorary Doctoral degrees were bestowed by the Board of Trustees to Stan Toler (D Divinity), Alejandro Sandoval (D Divinity) and Brad Moore (D Humane Letters),” said Loren Gresham, Ph.D., President of Southern Nazarene University.
“Much appreciation goes to our faculty, staff and students who helped with the Commencement activities. What a celebration of the SNU Mission is the graduation of these students. It was definitely a great day to celebrate the mission of SNU,” said Mary Jones, Ph.D., and Provost at Southern Nazarene University.
The SNU Board of Trustees also presented President Loren Gresham and Mrs. Gresham a special award Saturday, marking the Gresham’s 20th Commencement as President of Southern Nazarene University.
“As we look ahead, there is much for which to be grateful. Efforts will be made to improve several campus facilities over the summer. The recent rains have left our foliage in the most beautiful condition in many years,” said Dr. Gresham. “The summer will hopefully provide time for rest and vacations for many.”
The SNU Mission statement highlight was delivered by Dr. Jerry Lambert, Former Director, International Board of Education/Former President, Nazarene Bible College (morning) and Dr. Hal Cauthron, Chair, SNU School of Theology and Ministry (afternoon).

As a Christian community of scholars, we model the hospitality of grace, the pursuit of truth, and the practice of discipleship, all within the Wesleyan-holiness tradition, as we prepare graduates who think with clarity, act with integrity, and serve with purpose.
Student marshals for the May 2009 Commencement were recognize for their outstanding academic performance among those anticipating graduation in the coming academic year: Chelsea Berkley, Lauren L. Brand, Aaron Buchanan, Megan Cole, Philip Cox, Cesiley French, Erin Fitzgerald, Michael Scott Green, Clinton Ingersol, Daniel Linille, Victoria Oakes, and Lindsey Rochester.
The Distinguished Achievement Award Recipients are listed as follows: BSBA 7 - Shannon VanWinkle and Adam Bigknife. BSBA8 - Chris Davis, Jason Jones, and Briane McClain. OL 235 - Amy Elliott. NM 14 - Robert Atwood and Chris Gutel. RN - 28 - Gloria Seeley. Tulsa - OL T 66 - Donald "Mick" Snider II.
The morning Commencement was followed by the Tradition of the Ivy Ring with graduating Seniors and their families.
