“I've been working on this series for over ten years now. I've always loved reading fantasy, and I've always wanted to try my hand at writing some. Like many fantasy writers, I was interested in using the genre to explore some big ideas, in this case, the nature of power and duty and faith, but I didn't plan out where all of it was going to go up front. I simply created some characters and a basic situation and then tried to "just see what happened." Starfall was the result, and I'm very happy with how it all turned out. This story is a set-up for much longer narrative that I would love to write if anyone else is interested in it but me. I don't know if I have any clear "inspirations" other than the usual ones for any of us who deal with fantasy--I mean, there isn't anyone who isn't indebted to Tolkien--but a lot of the fodder for the book comes from ideas I deal with all the time," said Crutcher.
