SNU Receives Two Million Dollar Grant

BETHANY, Okla. (October 11, 2011) – SNU has been awarded a 5-year Title III Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant through the U.S. Department of Education totaling $2,000,000 for increasing educational access for students through online education.

The Title III project will allow SNU to develop and pilot new online courses in General Education, coursework toward the Associate of Arts degree, and courses in high-demand fields such as business/leadership, healthcare, and social sciences.

Title III’s Strengthening Institutions Program is designed to strengthen the capacity of eligible higher education institutions to deliver academic quality.  Other key initiatives within SNU’s project also include:

- significant faculty and staff training, including a centralized Faculty Studio space for course development
- development of essential online student services such as registration, financial aid, tutoring, career services, and advising
- personnel, equipment and software necessary to develop, pilot, and refine the online courses and services

SNU President Loren Gresham noted that the grant “allows SNU to accelerate online delivery of courses and programs,” emphasizing that the key initiatives in the grant promote the goals of the University’s Strategic Plan.

"This Department of Education grant allows us to establish centralized SNU services for online learning and provide training for faculty to design, develop and pilot quality online courses,” said Dr. Linda Wilcox, who will serve as the Title III Project Director.
“Beginning in the summer 2012, students will have an expanded opportunity to take courses online to supplement their on-campus degree programs.  This grant makes it possible for anyone who has access to a computer to enroll in some of our best courses online and work toward earning a degree from SNU.”
