BETHANY, OK (September 6, 2012) - Blair Spindle has joined the staff of Southern Nazarene University as the newly adjusted position of University Pastor and Dean of Chapel.
Spindle is serving as University Pastor which is more of a “pastoral” position in Spiritual Development, rather than the past position of Vice President of Spiritual Development. This revised position is more geared toward the students and their growth.
“My role may be dictated a little as my title 'University Pastor',” said Spindle. “To pastor people, in my opinion, means to really know people, to lead them with authenticity, to pray for them, to continue and study and communicate scripture with them, and to give spiritual direction. While this is a big place with people from many backgrounds, it is still my desire to do this.”
Spindle is gifted with many different skills that will strengthen the position that he has been chosen for. Some of these skills are an extraordinary ability to be personable, relational and approachable. Spindle has a distinctive “pastoral” outlook on his position, is an accomplished writer, and a devoted follower of Christ Jesus.
“My vision for this office is that we would be a very present spiritual resource for our campus. I want our offices to be open to students. We invite students to come and see us. We are working to reconfigure our offices to make them more welcoming for people. My hope is that we can really pastor people here at SNU,” stated Spindle.
Spindle graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University with a Bachelors in History and Education, from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1996 with a masters of Art - Religious Education, Cum Laude, and then in 2004 graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a doctorate in Education in Child and Youth Studies. In 1992, Spindle pastored at various churches finally ending up at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, a local church. Spindle is married to Tollya with three girls; Bethany, Bailey, and Brooklyn. He is a dedicated family man and very enthusiastic about his relationships and the people around him.
Southern Nazarene University's mission is to transform lives through higher education in Christ-centered community. As a Christian community of scholars, we model the hospitality of grace, the pursuit of truth and the practice of discipleship, all within the Wesleyan-holiness tradition, as we prepare graduates who THINK with clarity, ACT with integrity and SERVE with purpose.
