    BETHANY, OK (September 25, 2013) - Four Southern Nazarene University science students recently participated in NASA Space Grant summer programs. Participants conducted research that they will present at the Geospatial Summer Fellowship Symposium, to be held at the University of Oklahoma this fall.   • SNU Alumnus, David Busic, Elected 40th General Superintendent

    INDIANAPOLIS, IN (June 26, 2013) - SNU Alumni, David Busic, president of Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, was elected as the 40th general superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene today.   • Students Support the Homeless Through Weekly Run

    BETHANY, OK (March 4, 2013) - Freshman Aaron Taylor has taken it upon himself to help raise funds for REACH theme housing by hosting a weekly running event named the Jericho Run. The Jericho Run is a weekly four mile run created to help raise money to help the REACH theme house that reaches out to the homeless in OKC by each runner finding their own sponsor(s) who donate money for each mile they run.     The SNU University Singers and Chorale were featured in a jazz festival during a mission trip to Valencia, Venezuela.   • Dorris Named SNU's Head Coach of Women's Basketball

    BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene University has announced that it has hired Derek Dorris as its Head Coach for Women’s Basketball.  Dorris becomes the 10th coach in the program’s history that features seven NAIA National Championships.   • School for Children Celebrates 40 Years!

    The SNU School for Children recently celebrated their 40th birthday since opening their doors in 1971. Dr. Joy Beaver, a professor in the SNU School of Education, founded the School for Children.  She envisioned opening a lab school in a former dormitory, Jernigan Hall, as she was driving home one day.  After being turned down numerous times her persistence paid off and she was finally given the keys to Jernigan Hall in the spring of 1971.   Full Story

    Last month, the Student Athlete Advisory Council at Southern Nazarene University hosted an event at the Claud and Betty Cypert Athletic Complex to raise money for the Angel Tree Ministry. Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ.     BETHANY, OK (May 7, 2012) - Trey Polk, a sophomore Biology-Chemistry major, has been named one of the 2012 Sir Alexander Fleming Scholars.     BETHANY, Okla. (December 8, 2011) - This December, Southern Nazarene University is celebrating the 45th anniversary of their first official mission trip.   Over Spring Break of 1966, a team of SNU students traveled to Musquiz, Mexico and built a church.  Later that year, part of that team and a few other students journeyed back to Musquiz on an evangelistic outreach.  The impact of that trip is still felt on both sides of the Rio Grande River.   Full Story

    Southern Nazarene University has received a $159,552 grant from the National Science Foundation. The 3-year grant will fund the project “Emergent Hierarchies of Leaders in Multi-Robot Systems” through the NSF's Cyber-Enabled Discovery and Innovation (CDI) and Research in Undergraduate Institutions (RUI) programs.   • SNU Alumnus Becomes Student at New Medical School Campus

    Southern Nazarene University alumnus Daniel Linville (’10) is a part of a new medical school campus in Salina, Kansas that will focus on rural communities. Linville is one of eight in an inaugural class that will receive all of their training in a small community and where officials hope they will remain to practice medicine. The new school is operated by the University of Kansas and is the smallest in the nation to offer a full four-year medical education.   Full Story

  • SNU Alumna Becomes Administrator of the Year

    Southern Nazarene University alumna, Meggan (Burns) Wilson (’97) was chosen as Administrator of the Year by Oklahoma Association of Elementary School Principals. Earlier this year she received the OAESP district 11A Administrator of the Year. Since graduating from SNU Wilson has taught first, third and fourth grades in Oklahoma City, Putnam City and Mustang.   Full Story

  • Incentive Grants Prepare Oklahoma Nursing Educators From SNU

    The School of Nursing at Southern Nazarene University (SNU) has received continuing funding for the fourth year of an Oklahoma Incentive Nursing Graduate Scholars Grant. This $2.5 million, 5-year grant is provided by an anonymous donor through the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma. The grant was established to help combat the shortage of nursing instructors at Oklahoma’s colleges and universities.   Full Story

  • SNU Alumnus Named Top 12 Finalist

    Southern Nazarene University alumnus Jody Bowie was named Putnam City Teacher of the Year earlier this spring. He was also named the Oklahoma Technology Association's Teacher of the Year. After receiving the Putnam City Teacher of the Year award, Bowie began the in-depth application process to become the Oklahoma Teacher of the year.   Full Story

  • SNU Receives Grant from Butterfield Memorial Foundation

    Southern Nazarene University received a $25,000 grant from the Butterfield Memorial Foundation. This is the second installment of a two-year $50,000 Butterfield grant. The money will support the Butterfield Scholarship for the Nursing project at SNU.   Full Story

  • SNU Students Take 3,700 Mile Journey

    Southern Nazarene University students, Travis Vernier, Carson Calloway and 2011 graduates, Jared Grosse and Matt Barnes are spending the summer riding bicycles across the United States. Their self-supported adventure began in Times Square at the end of May. The guys travel around 50-80 miles per day and are currently just outside of Minnesota.   Full Story

    Toby Rowland, a KWTV-9 sports reporter and KREF-AM 1400 morning talk show host, will be named the new University of Oklahoma play-by-play voice, The Oklahoman has learned.
