Crimson Storm Coach Hosts Camps Overseas

BETHANY, OK (August 7, 2012) - This summer, Crimson Storm Head Football Coach Mike Cochran traveled to Austria to host two football camps.

Coach Cochran went to Austria and Poland last summer to establish a relationship with missionaries in both of those countries. The plan was very simple; to spread the Gospel through two football clinics. During the original trip God softened the hearts of 30 young men and they accepted Christ.

“I felt led to return to disciple those who accepted and to see if God has others for us to share His Gospel with. We also have a missionary on the ground that has been disciplining  the new Christians since we departed last year and I wanted to return to assist his ministry,” said Coach Cochran

Europe is a very tough mission field since all the basic needs are met and residents have preconceived ideas regarding "religion". Therefore, the opportunity to build a relationship needs to center around something like a sport is vital. “American Football” is a great vehicle for these relationships since it has grown faster than any other sport in recent years.

Coach Cochran and Assistant Coach Micah Anderson returned to Austria to help put on two four-day football camps. The camps were held in Innsbruck and Graz, Austria with the primary purpose to share the gospel with men ages 16 to 25.

The camps allowed the staff to build a relationship around something they are passionate about. Through the use of our knowledge of football, Cochran and a team of coaches were able to build relationships and plant seeds that lead to many discovering the love of Christ.

Coach Cochran worked with Danny Caldwell, a missionary from Texas, in setting up the camps.  Together they shared the good news in structured small groups, through testimonies at the end of camp, through one-on-one relationships outside of camp, and though the Godly examples of the coaches on the trip.

Coach Cochran concluded by saying, “I have wondered if God has allowed me to play and coach football in order to prepare me for opportunities like this”.
