Band Ensembles

The Symphonic Band is a 55 member auditioned group which performs throughout the school year locally and overseas. The repertoire consists of a wide spectrum of secular and sacred literature encompassing marches, orchestral transcriptions and the best of original music for wind ensemble.

The Brass Choir consists of 18 select brass players who perform works taken from the brass band repertoire, as well as music written more specifically for brass choirs. The group exists to explore the fascinating sonorities of brass instruments, complemented occasionally by the percussion. Dr. Phil Moore conducts both the Symphonic Band and Brass Choir.

The Jazz Band is comprised of 20 players configured after the "Big Band" style of the 1930s and 40s. They perform many jazz standards as well as more contemporary repertoire, encompassing both sacred and secular literature.

In recent years, the bands have toured in Venezuela (1989 and 1993) where they were invited by the Minister of Culture to perform in one of the country’s finest performing halls and gave numerous public performances around the nation; Spain (1995) where they performed in Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla, again performing in a variety of public areas and parks; and Australia, New Zealand and Fiji (1997) where the bands performed in concert halls, churches and public schools.

In May of 1999, the bands toured England, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, performing in churches, concert halls and outdoor venues. Brazil was the destination in 2001, where the bands and orchestra ministered and performed in Rio de Janiero, Campinas and Sao Paulo.

The Percussion Ensemble explores the gamut of music written for percussion.
