BETHANY, Okla. (July 12, 2010) - Dr. Sylvia Goodman, chair, Department of Kinesiology; Athletic Training Program Director; and professor of Kinesiology at Southern Nazarene University
has returned from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association meeting with news that SNU has received a $14,000 gift of an underwater treadmill from HydroWorx
. SNU is one of the very first schools in the nation to receive and offer this new technology.
The underwater treadmill has integrated resistance technology and will provide a highly functional rehab experience. Benefits include gait training, balance enhancement, increased flexibility, as well as increased healing and strengthening of injured tissue.
The treadmill will be used in class by athletic training and pre-physical therapy students. Students will be learning rehabilitation techniques as well biomechanics and gait training. The underwater treadmill is being added to the fitness lab that has recently been upgraded with equipment that is used to practice and learn about fitness training and physical therapy exercises. Everyone is excited about this new equipment, especially Goodman, “The Treadmill is 'state of the art' in aquatic therapy. I am thrilled that we will be able to incorporate this piece of equipment into our educational planning for the Athletic Training and Pre-PT students.”
The underwater treadmill is new to HydroWorx and will be installed in the pool located in Broadhurst gymnasium this fall.
