The popular TOMS Shoe Company “One for One” (For every pair of shoes sold, another pair is given away) will have a representative on the Southern Nazarene University (SNU) campus Friday, April 3, beginning at 4:00 PM in The Commons Heritage room located at 6729 Northwest 39th Expressway in Bethany, Oklahoma.
“TOMS Shoes currently gives shoes to children in need in Argentina, South Africa, Ethiopia and the United States. Founded in 2006, the movement has grown tremendously, growing from the 10,000 pairs given in the first year to the 130,000 pairs given at the most recent shoe drop,” said Chris McGrady, SNU student and TOMS shoe representative.
The SNU hosted event begins with the TOMS documentary film “For Tomorrow”. Following the film, participants will move out onto the SNU Snowbarger lawn for what is called the “Style Your Sole” party. Those involved will have an opportunity to purchase a pair of blank canvas TOMS, which they can customize using the art supplies that will be provided for them.
“The goal for this event is to get the word out about the TOMS movement, because believe it or not, there are still many students on our campus who are completely unaware,” said Chris McGrady. “TOMS is such a genuine project and I am so blessed to be a part of it.”
An additional event that SNU student volunteer Chris McGrady has planned for the SNU campus on April 16, 2009 is called “One Day without Shoes.” This event is a nationwide effort where people from all across the country will be going without shoes to raise awareness about the millions of children who go each day without shoes.
Students at SNU, as well as anyone else who wishes to join in, can choose to participate by attending classes and walking around campus completely barefoot. Participants can register that they will be walking barefoot by texting “PLEDGE” to 75309.
