Educators like Bethany Bond, a first grade teacher at Tulakes Elementary School in Putnam City. “I am so blessed to be at Tulakes with the students I teach and the people that I work with. I have the privilege of telling 23 students that I believe in them and that they ‘can’ when the world that they live in says they ‘can’t’,” says Bond, who was the first person in her family to graduate college, earning her BA in Early Childhood Education from SNU. Bond says she uses her history as the first in her family to graduate, with honors nonetheless, to help motivate her students and encourage them that they can achieve anything they set their minds too. “I am a living example that they can defy the odds and make their dreams come true,” adds Bond.
“Every course I took at SNU has helped me in countless ways and I find out new ways each day, but I believe that nothing from the textbooks has taught me near as much as my professors did. The way that they were intentional with every student, wanted what was best for them, prayed for them and encouraged them has been one of the most beneficial things that I have taken from SNU. I have found that the relationships you have with your students is key. The more you tell your students you love them and believe in them, the more they believe it and try their hardest. That is why I start each morning off with a big hug to each student and end it by telling them how much I love them.” Bond is married to her best friend, David Bond, and is looking into some graduate programs through SNU
