Herman Boone to Speak at SNU’s Peer Learning Network

The Peer Learning Network is pleased to announce the speakers for the final event of the 2011-2012 season. Mr. Brian Davis Oklahoma City Thunder TV Play by Play Announcer and Mr. Toby Rowland "The Voice of the Sooners" will present on the topic of Ethical Leadership in Professional Sports.

Brian Davis has been the Television Play by Play Announcer for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team for the past three seasons. Davis regularly covered the Chicago Bulls during the Michael Jordan era and became a contributor to NBA Radio, hosting game broadcasts and serving as sideline reporter for the network during the 1991 playoffs and NBA Finals. He later hosted Bulls broadcasts on FSN Chicago and occasionally called Sonics games in Seattle. He has an extensive play-by-play resume at the college level, including the Big Ten, Pac-10, Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference.

Toby Rowland was named the "Voice of the Sooners" in the fall of 2011. Having started with News 9 in 1999, Toby Rowland is an Emmy award winning sports reporter and the face of Oklahoma high school sports coverage. In 2009, Rowland also became the voice of the Sooner sidelines. He is the game day sideline reporter for both television and radio broadcasts for the University of Oklahoma football, basketball, baseball and softball. Rowland won the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters award for "Best Sportscast" in 2004, the Society of Professional Journalist award for "Best Sports Reporting" in 2005, an Emmy award for the 2005 Orange Bowl Blitz, an Emmy nomination in 2000, and an Emmy award for his feature on the Endeavor Games in 2010.

Tom Ward to Speak at SNU’s Peer Learning Network On Thursday, February 9th, The Peer Learning Network at Southern Nazarene University will be hosting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sandridge Energy, Tom L. Ward at The Petroleum Club in downtown Oklahoma City.

"Mr. Tom Ward is a leader of leaders in the Energy field and the corporate community at large. Our Peer Learning Network partners and guests will benefit greatly from his insights into building and sustaining great businesses of integrity,” said Dr. Terry Toler, VP of University Advancement and Church Relations.

Prior to Sandridge Energy Ward served as President, Chief Operating Officer, and a Director of Chesapeake Energy Corporation from the time he co-founded the company with Aubrey K. McClendon in 1989 until February 2006. In 2000, Mr. Ward and his son, Trent, co-founded White Fields, Inc., a home for severely abused and neglected boys.

Ward will be speaking from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Petroleum Club Downtown Oklahoma City as a part of SNU’s Peer Learning Network speaker series. Peer Learning Network Presents Eric Alexander November 3, 2011, The Peer Learning Network at Southern Nazarene University hosted climber, speaker and author, Eric Alexander on the campus of Southern Nazarene University. Alexander, a professional mountaineer devotes his spare time directing Adventures Beyond Limits, an organization that utilizes the outdoors to encourage and educate youth with disabilities. SNU Awards Dan Cathy Leadership Scholarship

Southern Nazarene University student, Khortnie Neal, is the first recipient of the Dan Cathy Leadership Scholarship.

Southern Nazarene University, The Zig Ziglar Center for Ethical Leadership and the Peer Learning Network awarded the Dan Cathy Leadership Scholarship to Khortnie K. Neal, a Junior at Southern Nazarene University, in recognition of Mr. Cathy’s presentation at Peer Learning Network. Neal, an outstanding accounting major from Oklahoma City, was chosen to receive the scholarship due to her superior work ethic and high GPA within the School of Business.

“I am so excited and grateful to have received this scholarship. It was an honor to meet Mr. Cathy and hear his perspective on running a successful business,” said Neal.

This one-time scholarship was awarded to the outstanding junior business major, nominated by the faculty of the School of Business. The funding for this scholarship was provided by Peer Learning Network in honor of Dan Cathy. As COO of Chik-fil-A, Cathy and Chik-fil-A have awarded over $28,000,000 in scholarships to students across the United States.
