McNair Scholars

Welcome to the McNair Scholars Program at SNU! We prepare SNU undergraduates for doctoral studies through involvement in research and scholarly activities. Participants must be first-generation students meeting certain income criteria and/or students from groups underrepresented in graduate studies.


  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • First generation and income eligible student OR a member of an underrepresented group:
     African American, Hispanic, Native American or Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of: 3.0*
  • Must express a desire to attain a Ph.D

  * GPAs of less than 3.0 may be considered under extraordinary circumstances as space allows
