Biography

Dr. Thompson has been working in higher education since 2009. He is the Director of Institutional Research. Dr. Thompson started his career teaching primarily physical education and health for twelve years at the K-12 level in both public and private Christian school settings in Illinois. In addition to teaching, he also served as an athletic director and coach.

Dr. Thompson began his higher education career in 2009 at Olivet Nazarene University where he worked for 10 years as a faculty member in the Exercise and Sports Science (EXSS) Department. He also served as department chair for two years. His doctoral dissertation research examined the impact high school physical education has on the physical activity habits of traditional college freshmen. Dr. Thompson also served as the Undergraduate Director of Persistence and Academic Advising at ONU after his time in the EXSS Department. Thompson enjoys connecting with students and has a passion for helping them to achieve their goals.

While at SNU Dr. Thompson has served as a faculty member and department chair in the Kinesiology Department and as the Title III Project Director. Dr. Thompson’s wife, Dawn, is an elementary teacher, and they have three daughters. Thompson loves to ride many miles on his bicycle and has completed multiple century rides.
