SNU Hosting Annual K-9 Veterans Day Celebration Event March 29th

[Bethany, OK] - Southern Nazarene University (SNU), in conjunction with the Northwest Oklahoma City Chamber, is hosting this year’s National K-9 Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday, March 29, 2025. The event is free to the public and is scheduled from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Ron Clark Dog Park, located on McMillan Avenue in Bethany, OK. Guests are invited to enjoy various vendors and activities, including sponsor Hefner Road Animal Hospital. The event will also feature Veteran Resources, Support, and Career Services, Bethany Animal Shelter Adopt-a-Dog, a dog demonstration, and a K-9 Veterans Day Ceremony.
K-9 Veterans Day is a national holiday designed to honor all dogs who have served in our nation’s military. “It is a day to recognize the sacrifices and loyalty of our military and working dogs,” explains Event Coordinator Ruben Reyes, also a Veteran who serves as Outreach Coordinator for SNU’s College of Professional and Graduate Studies. K-9 Veterans Day is observed in March in recognition of the United States officially creating the K-9 Corps in March of 1942 during World War II.
SNU’s VETS Center is dedicated to honoring our military dogs that protect our active duty service members and those that serve as therapy dogs for our veterans. “[Military dogs] have played a huge role in every deployment in every war that we’ve been in, and [on this day] we just want to say thank you to these great partners in action,” explains SNU VETS Center Director Mark Nadig. “They really do bring added value in the battlefield for us, and help in identifying threats. At the end of the day these dogs help save lives,” he adds.
Historically, SNU has celebrated this day by holding an outdoor festival at local city dog parks with veteran service organizations, service dog demonstrations, and fun for the whole family. Bring your dog to enjoy Bethany's new dog park and help us honor our nation’s four-legged heroes!
